Project Manager - Aviation

Job Summary:

The role entails leading a construction team for aviation projects and supervising the entire management of the project, including direction, planning, completion, and financial outcomes. The Project Manager will provide guidance and mentorship to on-site personnel, necessitating strong business management, leadership, organizational, and time management abilities, along with effective communication and team-building skills. Existing credentials for access to O'Hare airport are preferred, but not required.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Manage and/or organize personnel and resources for the project.
  • Support preconstruction endeavors.
  • Oversee all phases of the project from inception to completion.
  • Develop and implement company development and construction plans.
  • Create trade contracts and bid packages and supervise the procurement process.
  • Supervise the shop drawing, submittal, and construction coordination process.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent to plan and coordinate the project.
  • Monitor project performance, including status, schedule, cost control, and change management systems.
  • Cultivate relationships with designers, consultants, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Chair project meetings, including progress, pre-construction, and pre-award sessions.
  • Ensure meticulous adherence to documentation protocols.
  • Review inspection and test data to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Establish and uphold site logistics plans in coordination with the Superintendent.
  • Supervise all site safety programs in collaboration with safety consultants and the Superintendent.
  • Complies with established company work rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Actively engages with other members of the company to continuously strive to improve processes, create efficiencies, reduce costs, and increase profitability.
  • Cooperatively takes on other duties, roles, or responsibilities, as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • 2-4 years in Planning, Design, and Construction experience
  • Airline experience not required (but passion and familiarity preferred)
  • Ability to independently engage and effectively communicate with stakeholders including internal United and external design and general contractors.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously ($5M and under).
  • Conversant in aviation business terminology (not project required, it just helps connect with the stakeholders)
  • Experience working in active buildings.
  • Experience in project management, project controls, contract management, risk analysis and mitigation.
  • Experience in budgeting and similar analysis.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related field
  • Minimum of 4 years experience in construction, specifically core/shell or aviation preferred.
  • Working knowledge of various construction disciplines, cost control, scheduling, safety.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

Physical Requirements:

  • Walking, sitting, climbing stairs, standing for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to work at a desk on a computer.
  • Ability to operate tools and other heavy equipment and machinery.
  • Lift and/or move up to 50 pounds at times.
  • Reach with hands and arms.
  • Ability to operate and work in weather conditions such as heat, humidity, cold.
  • Occasional exposure to fumes, dust, chemicals.
  • Exposure to loud sounds, vibrations associated with construction.

Pay Range: $75,000 – $90,000 per year commensurate on experience.
